A former East Devon schoolgirl had a short-lived fling with Prince William, it has been revealed.
Former Colyton Grammar School pupil Carly Massy- Birch, 25, dated the prince for six weeks when they were both in their first year at St Andrew's University, according to reports in the Sunday national newspapers.
Carly, from Axminster, went out with Prince William shortly before he began seeing Kate Middleton, his curent girlfriend.
Carly's mother, Mimi, confirmed the pair were an item and said her daughter was not upset when the future heir to the throne began seeing Kate Middleton after their relationship floundered.
She said: "There's absolutely no fall-out between her and Kate. In fact, all three of them are best friends.
"Carly has her own partner, with whom she is very much in love. She really wants Kate to marry Wills so she can be sure of going to the wedding."
According to her mother, Carly, who now lives in London, has appeared in several Radio 4 plays.

There were superb performances by all the cast. Carl McCrystal, Paul Leonard, Penelope Rawlins and Carley Massy-Birch where excellent and brought individuality to each of the roles they played. Stephen Hancock and Joe Sowerbutts excellently performed their smaller roles.

First-time visitors to Southwold, our trio had a dramatic introduction to
our unseasonable August weather. L to R: Nigel Pilkington who
demonstrated what can only be termed ‘sleight of body’ when he somehow
contrived to act Hickory Wood and his three siblings (sometimes,
apparently, on stage, at the same time) in ‘One for the Pot’; Carley Massy-
Birch who played Sally in ‘Climbing the Wall’ and summoned up an
uncannily authentic 1950s diction as Daphne in ‘Dick Barton’; and Kate
Middleton who gave lively and characterful performances as Elaine in
Arsenic & Old Lace and Cynthia in ‘One for the Pot’.

This has been Carley’s debut on the professional stage although,
since graduating from the Oxford School of Drama last year, she has
had a number of TV and radio jobs. She has also done a lot of
‘temping’ – not least as PA to Jill Freud herself for a time. She also,
intriguingly, runs her own business making small, exquisitely
decorated Christmas cakes!
